Assistant Director of Children & Family Ministry

Position: Assistant Director of Children & Family Ministry will oversee our Sunday School program/events and provide Children’s Moments on Sunday mornings. The time requirement is approximately 14 hours per week with flexibility on days worked. This position has the potential to become full-time over the next few years.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Children & Family Ministry will assist the Director of Children and Family Ministry and be responsible for specific job duties related to our church’s Sunday School program and Sunday morning Children’s Moments.

Qualifications Necessary:

  • Requires a love of young people and previous experience working with children and families
  • Degree or coursework in education, social psychology, social work or seminary is desired
  • Experience working in a church or with children’s ministry programming is desired
  • Proficient skills with Microsoft Office & general internet use (email, Facebook, etc)
  • Background in, or familiarity with, United Methodist policy (desirable)
  • Works independently and as a team member to do whatever the job requires

Specific Job Duties

  • Attend Staff meetings 2x/month / Worship meetings / Children & Family Ministry meetings
  • Sunday School
    • Email Sunday School teachers
    • Unlock classroom doors on Sunday and circulate to classes
    • Collect and check SS classroom folders, attendance, registration sheets
    • Log attendance for SS and small groups
    • Assure that childcare has been scheduled for Tues, Wed, and Sun
    • Plan and execute preparations for new year in August
    • Plan and prepare SS teacher inservice meetings
    • Write liturgy and plan for Backpack Blessing
    • Plan and execute Rally Day
    • Write liturgy and plan for SS teacher commissioning
    • Write liturgy and plan for Bible Sunday
    • Write liturgy and plan for Teacher Appreciation
    • Plan and execute Children’s Garden Planting
    • Teach or arrange for teaching of Summer Sunday School and summer movies
    • Prepare and deliver Children’s Moments
    • Prepare and execute quarterly Club 34 meetings (3rd & 4th grades
    • Assist in development of quarterly Family Fun Events
    • Assist in development of Advent/Lenten family programs
    • Plan and execute Family Camp weekend
    • VBS Assistant Director

Time allotment per week as follows: (this is flexible)
                Tuesday staff meetings:  3 hours (not every Tuesday)….                  2 hours
                Wednesday:  4:00 to 7:00……………………………….                      3 hours
                Thursday:      9:00 to 3:00……………………………….                      6 hours
                Sunday:         9:00 to 12:00……………………………..                      3 hours
                                                                                                                      14 hours
